Christmas Day at Rangihoua

2014-12-20

On Christmas Day 1814 the Christian message was proclaimed by the Rev. Samuel Marsden before a gathering of Māori, and the Europeans associated with the Church Missionary Society. This was enabled by the vision, hospitality and protection of Marsden’s friend, Rangatira Ruatara of Rangihoua.

The ecumenical service, will be Anglican led. The service will remember the gift of two hundred years ago and those who enabled it on that site, as well as celebrate the ongoing work of the gospel. People are asked to make their own way to the site, by vehicle or boat, and are encouraged to bring a picnic and stay for the afternoon if they wish to.
